Attica is the larger administrative area around Athens which is its capital city.
It’s one of the most beautiful parts of Greece and offers many archaeological sites to visit besides those of Athens.
At first a full day tour of Attica starts with the visit of Marathon battlefield, where the Tomb of the 196 Athenian soldiers stands since 490 BC. Crossing the fertile plain of Marathon, dominated by Mnt Penteli, the tour includes the charming fishing harbor of Nea Makri. Then, make a stop at the official departure of the modern Marathon Race followed by the exciting visit of the Marathon Race Museum and the local Archaeological Museum.
Swimming in the Aegean Sea, and lunch on the sandy beach of Marathon bay is highly recommended if the opening hours allow to do so.
After lunch, cross vineyards and fields of pistachios and fig trees. Discover the ruins of the sanctuary of Artemis in Vravrona and find out about the “bears”.
From Vravrona, the tour continues to the temple of Poseidon, at Cape Sounion, dominating the Aegean. Enjoy a coffee overlooking some of greek islands and take the way back to Athens.
